Position: Development and Marketing Associate

The Development and Marketing Associate services DCWS and its internal partners, the Great Lakes Chamber Music Festival and Eisenhower Dance Ensemble, as well as other organizations with which DCWS shares staff on a more limited basis. The position plays a lead role in the planning, creation and meticulous execution of all marketing and development programs, with a special focus on special events. In addition, this position will provide support to marketing and development departments and assist in the coordination of the day-to-day activities of the marketing and development teams as requested. The qualified candidate must develop and maintain effective relationships with Board, volunteers and staff.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Work with the Director of Development and Director of Marketing Services to plan and implement special events including fundraisers, donor benefit and cultivation events and targeted marketing events in support of the mission of the organizations.
- Play a lead role in the design, creation and distribution of marketing materials for special events.
- Provide onsite guidance and direction for special events including handling and scheduling logistics, working with outside vendors and managing patron relations.
- Serve as a key staff liaison with board and volunteer leaders to help plan and coordinate events. Provide input to the decision making and planning activities of event committees.
- Work with development and marketing staff to manage databases and lists.
- Work with operations and marketing staff to plan and execute post-concert and other receptions.
- Assist in the coordination and distribution of all marketing and development mailings.
- Create and maintain patron/donor recognition lists from the organizational data base.
- Work at performances, special meetings and/or donor recognition events as necessary.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Position qualifications:
- A degree from a four year college, or equivalent professional experience; event planning experience in a corporate environment is a plus.
- The ability to interact effectively with a sophisticated constituency.
- An appreciation of the performing arts, especially music and dance.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Exceptional project management skills with extraordinary attention to detail and follow-up skills.
- Demonstrable success in the planning and execution of events of all sizes.
- Demonstrable initiative, strong problem resolution and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously in an unsupervised, fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work flexible hours, include nights and weekends as needed.
- Must be able to lift and carry weight of 35 lbs.
- Familiarity with word-processing, spreadsheet, and database programs.
